Sun Gold Papaya

$25.00

Sun Gold is a vigorous, high-yielding papaya with sweet yellow flesh and a Brix of 13–14 %. The fruits average 18–23 cm long and 15–18 cm across, weighing 2–2.5 kg, and they ripen about 75 cm above the ground on robust, upright plants. Developed in Hawaii for its excellent flavor and PRSV tolerance, this variety flowers in a roughly 45 % female/45 % male/10 % hermaphrodite ratio, ensuring a reliable fruit set.

These particular Sun Gold plants were started and carefully tended by New Orleans collector and grower Kevin Klopf, who sourced them from a respected Hawaiian breeding program. His hands-on care through each stage—from seed germination to first harvest—means you’re getting stock that’s already adapted to Gulf South heat and humidity.

We always try to seek out those who have years of experience growing what we grow and what we seel. In this video, local grower and electrician, Nigel Wilson shares his experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyE-6qfuovc&t=22s
