Neem (Azadirachta indica)
Ravi’s mom swears by one neem leaf a day to keep the doctor away. Though chatGPT told me not to give this to you as a prescription because it is said to be no bueno for kids and pregnant women. I'm neither. Been testing it on myself and so far so good.
This is the same neem that some folks use as oil, or url as you might say, to keep certain bugs away from their plants, and though I don’t truck with this notion, especially when growing outside, I can understand their reasoning for house plants and certain special times.
In South Asia, neem is used as twigs for brushing teeth, leaves for bitter teas and pastes. Quick note from me to you: neem is potent, so talk to a pro before using it internally, and skip it for kids and during pregnancy.
If nothing else, the neem tree (Azadirachta indica) is pretty, enough to make Munindra stop for the purple flowers and take in the airy canopy. In a container it’s easy to shape, quick to push new growth, and tough once established.
In New Orleans it’s happiest as a porch tree you can bring in before a frost.
